Fat tuesday, the day before lent. The day we indulge in more than just food, but also that which we’re going to give up for the next forty days. The day we’re forced to contemplate what exactly we’re going to give up for Jesus. Some of us get caught up in using this is a time to do something selfish like give up food to lose weight or joke that we’ll give up talking to our parents or doing homework. But what we fail to recognize is that lent and this season is about Jesus. Its about giving up something for 40 days thats “equivelant” to Jesus giving up food and water for 40 days and 40 nights. Its our sacrifice for him and our way of saying that we are reminded of God’s sacrifice for us. It is during this time that we try to strengthen our relationship with god. You don’t have to give up something so much as you have to create something more with God. Lent is preparing us for Good Friday and Easter, the rising of our Lord. And so this lent, unlike the past couple I’m going to do my best and only my best at keeping with my resolution. I’ve developed quite a potty mouth and I’m going to vow to rid myself of it this 40 days and nights and then hopefully continue it for the rest of everything. Here we go, Ash Wednesday tomorrow its time to make sure I’ve thorougly welcomed Jesus into my life.
